how to find out which community college classes will count as GEs?

My son doesn't need credits just for the sake of getting credits, but he does need certain GEs. If he took a couple of classes at community college over the summer, it would help. When he asked the counselor in the TFT school, he was told that all he could do was take some classes that sound like they might fit a GE category and hope that (after the fact) they will count as some GEs.

This answer sounds wrong to me. Not just wrong, in fact, but very wrong. Why spend the time and money if you don't know ahead of time whether it will count for a GE?

Isn't there some way to find out from UCLA ahead of time whether a certain class will transfer? Have any of you gone through this process of finding out? What did you do?

Alternatively, if the school you wish to attend is on the list in the following link, that’s another way to tell:

if it’s not, there’s a form at UCLA to figure see if they’ll give you credit.
