How to get 30+ on ACT?

This score, at this point, seems impossible for me. The highest composite I ever got was a 26 in April 2012. I got a lower score this recent June 2012 test, getting a 23. I don't know if there is much hope for me. I want to apply to schools like NYU, Notre Dame, USC, UCLA, and Chapman, but I don't know.

First off I would calm down
I took the ACT for the first time this past January (I’m a high school junior)
and I did horrible, and got a 23 as well, and my first choice school is NYU- so, as you can imagine, I freaked out and cried a lot.

I honestly just took a really deep breathe, and decided to focus on school instead.

Anyway I also took the june ACT, and I got a 29 (English 35, Math 27, Reading 30, Science 23 Essay 10/12)

and I didn’t prep for it at all! Why? Because I prepped a lot for the first one and that didn’t help me, did it? So I decided to just wing it the next time. And it worked out.

And a 29 is good for NYU, so I’m feeling a lot better. Not that you care.

Yeah prepping for the ACT is the best idea ever because the test is better than the SAT in that prepping can actually raise your score substantially. Buy a review book and go through it.

I was going to say. I prepped three days a week for the April test, got a 26. Prepped less, got a 23 in June.

Whoever said don’t study for the ACT obviously did not read the book. It says, STUDY so you… i think you know the rest.

I didn’t study and got a 35. BAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMM

Months before my ACT, my mom started a study program for me. She had me take a full practice test. I was stressed out and under a lot of pressure, and I only got, like, a 27. This jarred me because I’d expected to do a lot better and I’d done better on the practice test I’d taken at school the previous year. I started freaking out, reconsidering whether I was a worthy student at all and whether I should just stop trying to get into competitive schools and settle for middling state ones.

When I took the ACT, I had mellowed out and gotten a little more perspective on the issue. I got a standard eight hours of sleep, ate a good breakfast, and felt good about myself knowing that I hadn’t studied in weeks. I got a 34.

Don’t worry about it. Studying can help, but only if you do it with a positive attitude.

I guess it really depends on what your study habits are. Some people perform better without studying, but I think it’s always a good idea to prep (no matter how much you really do). Have you tried the Real ACT Prep Guide? I took a few practice tests in it before taking the test, and I didn’t perform as well on them as I had hoped to. I ended up getting a 33 on test day, and I think knowing the format of the test and how to pace yourself is the true key. Good luck! :)

Hi, I know its been a while…but I’m in the situation to where I got a 23 on my act like you…but I really want a 26! Can you tell me anything to do to reach that goal. I really really want this
