How to get a 2150+ on the SAT?

Hi, so I took the November SAT and scored a 1760. I really want a chance to boost my score to at least a 2150+. So far I have purchased “PWN the SAT” and the Erica Meltzer books on writing and reading. I would really appreciate any feedback that you guys used to achieve a score of 2150+. For example, how to use these books, study plans/schedules, other resources, etc. Thank you so much and have a good day! By the way, my scores were, Writing: 560, Math: 620, and Reading: 580.

One way to get a 2150+ is to get 800 on two sections and at least 650 on the remaining section, but of course that’s just one possibility and there are many more. I’d recommend 720/720/710 or something close to it.

The main thing is practice tests. Do a dozen of them. Each time, go back and carefully review and analyze each question you got wrong. Because the SAT is more of an intelligence/logic test and less about info, you have to really familiarize yourself with the SAT, its style, and its questions. Good luck!

alright, thank you! @collegebound1516

Buy some practice test and do them…

Erica Meltzer’s books are very good if you want to improve your score fast. However, do not expect to simply breeze and skim through the books, and think that you will soak up all the knowledge and advice. Her books are full of exercises and very thorough explanations that need to be thoroughly understood in order to improve. In my opinion English is the easiest to improve because it is simply because one needs to only understand and implement the rules taught.
Also, the January SAT is exactly a month and a half away, so use your winter break to prepare in that time because January SAT is the last shot for everyone taking the Old SAT.
Good Luck!!!

@littlemonster39 will do! thanks for your response!

@ueutyi where do I get practice tests?

You scored in the 70-80th percentile. And now you want to score in the 95th+ percentile.

Odds are that is not likely.

True, but that score is my first SAT score taking it without much prep. I am now diligently studying to get to the 95th percentile.

@thenonchosenone Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Barrons-SAT-27th-Book-Only/dp/1438003676/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449636197&sr=8-1&keywords=barrons+sat Do everything in the book and you will probably get a boost around 200-300

@thenonchosenone Don’t listen to @ClarinetDad16. I went from a 1500 to a 2100. AKA 50th percentile to 93rd. It’s possible. You have the right books to attain the score you want. Just work very fastidiously on them and your score will improve in no time.

thank you @ueutyi for your response. thank you @joeweller I will definitely do that!

Some people also believe they can simply study to achieve National Merit. The odds of going from a 50-70th percentile score to the top 1% on a single day single test outcome are astronomical.

I know that is the PSAT, but same holds true for SAT unless something usually involving money changes and one is significantly prepped to the “tricks” of the test to change outcomes. That is why the SAT is perhaps more correlated with income than intelligence these days.

Simple studying can move a 1700 range school to perhaps a 1800 or 1900 range score. Or not at all. But a triple 700+ type outcome is a great aspiration but not a probable outcome. Be reasonable and shoot for a 1900 first, and once that is knocked out then work for a 2000.

Do not listen to @ClarinetDad16 or @ueutyi

Go to cracksat (Google it), print out each test one by one and emulate the real SAT. Guaranteed that you will get the score you want.

  1. Take the test
  2. Get your score using the provided answer key + scale
  3. Write down every math and writing question you get wrong in a notebook and review them weekly or so
  4. Understand why you got reading problems wrong.

If you’re lacking in vocabulary, get Direct Hits I and II and memorize them all.

Although I believe you can get significantly better with a lot of studying, don’t tie your success to a specific numerical goal. Simply aim to improve as much as you can, and don’t predispose yourself to disappointment if you achieve, say, a 2000 flat, which is still an outstanding score in its own right.

You can get any score you want. Priceless

I recommend just taking as many practice tests as possible and making sure you completely understand every single mistake you make. Do not let yourself simply brush the error off by saying “oh, I was going to put that” or whatever… I took the March sat and got a 1760. But then after many (many) practice tests, I got my score up to a 2250. You can definitely do it, just make sure to want it really badly. Good luck!!!

@bsdsj22 did you try this method yourself? If so what did you score? Just out of curiosity. I will definitely do what you suggested as well!
