How to get a DoDMERB Waiver?

I found out yesterday that I was considered medically disqualified because of the visual acuity in my left eye was not correctable to 20/20. Is there any way that I could retake the test or get a waiver? Will I have to do anything else in order for a waiver to be granted?

If you are competitive for an appointment, the USCGA will automatically consider you for a waiver, you don’t need to do anything to initiate it.

However, you may wish to consult with Larry Mullen, Deputy Director of DODMERB. Send him an email at Larry.Mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil . Include your name, the last 4 digits of your Social Security number, and a description of your problem (or simply copy your post from above).

90% of the time he will respond to you in 1 hour or less.

100% of the time he will respond in 24 hours or less.

Yes, he’s that good.

As mentioned, a waiver is automatically considered. A common misunderstanding is about paying for exams. Any cost for re-testing for a WAIVER will be handled by the government. At the moment you are Disqualified. If you choose to produce exams or seek medical information and counsel that counters that status, the cost for those exams /labs/etc will be paid by you.
Mr Mullen (reference above) is actually AT DoDMERB, so whatever he sends you will be from the source.
Best of luck.
