<p>Can somebody- preferably with broad experience in employment- give me some advice on how to get a mildly brain-intensive job? I'm looking for a job that is not completely menial, something that will not make me cry at night such as a Wal-Mart store greeter. </p>
<p>I realize my options are a bit limited without a so-called qualification (a degree) and with the unemployment rate, but I'd like to at least aspire and try for a job that I feel is meaningful.</p>
<p>My initial suspicion is that personal connections mean a lot more than people make them out to be, but I still have no idea since I have zero experience. At least, that's the way I hope it is since I have nothing to put on my resume.</p>

<p>maybe try a trade? not exactly a “degree”, but will definitely get you to do something that you might consider fun/challenging, and most trade jobs make a very decent living</p>

The same thing that drove me out of school might drive me out of being an electrician, which is routine and inflexibility. Any other ideas?</p>
<p>Sounds like you should start your own company. Get any job for the capital, save a couple of thousand and get it started.</p>
<p>You should learn something about computing. Start by learning some programming languages. Software companies are sometimes willing to hire people who don’t have a degree if they can demonstrate overall competence.</p>
