Just to let everyone know, admissions responded to me and said it wasnt too late and they will still consider my application.

Well that is great news! Best of luck to you.

Consideration is not admission...but if you get in, learn from the experience.

One thing that happens in college is that being bright is no longer enough. You must plan, work, anticipate and reach.

Good luck.

question about senior year grades after acceptance... if the gpa goes down from mostly a's to mostly b's, would that be serious?

From what I've gathered on this board, FSU does not want to see any Ds on senior grades. They have rescinded offers of acceptance with a D. Other declines do not seem to have been problematic.

I would agree. No D's. Now all A's to all C's might create a problem. But not all B's.

Avoid senioritis. Why lose sleep over this? Get admitted and stay admitted.

Just a few questions.

I’m an out of state student, but I would like to get into FSU. I plan on applying to schools within the week. Is this early enough?

I carry a 3.5 weighted GPA. My grades have steadily improved since my freshman year. Last semester I had straight As, the semester before that one B. As a senior I currently hold three As and an eighty eight.

I have taken the ACT one time, as a junior, and got a 29. I am taking the test again in October.

I have taken several honors classes along with an AP class as a junior. This year I am taking four AP classes. I also go to a very good school, not sure if that does anything being OOS.

I have heavy ties to Florida (lived there until seventh grade, father and most of family live there). Is there any way I can get money or in state tuition? I doubt it, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

What ACT/ GPA would someone need to get tuition at FSU? Again, I’m quite ignorant at the moment. Not even sure if they give money.

It seems I also need to do the essay. Any ideas on my shot of being accepted?

Are you in the top 10 % of your class?

See: http://fsu.edu/students/

Why not schedule an appointment with FSU Admissions and ask?

2009 Fall Class - FSU
The application says the essay is optional, is it truly optional? I also have to send my transcript, but in top 4% of class (800), 4.6 wgpa, 32 act. Do students submit recommendations?

How is engineering?

I would not treat the essay as optional. You never know when it could be used as a tie-breaker.

[Engineering is OK](<a href=“Rankings | Florida State University”>Rankings | Florida State University) and likely the third-rated program in Florida. It is this way as the [College of Engineering](http://www.eng.fsu.edu/) is presently shared between FAMU (the only state supported [HBCU](Historically black colleges and universities - Wikipedia)) and Florida State. Graduate engineering programs are solely FSU (this is my understanding) and are energetic and impressive.

For example, see: [Materials Science / Interdisciplinary Graduate Degree Programs / Degree Programs / Academics & Research / The Graduate School / FSU - Florida State University The Graduate School](http://www.gradstudies.fsu.edu/Academics-Research/Degree-Programs/Interdisciplinary-Graduate-Degree-Programs/Materials-Science)

FSU doesn’t like playing second fiddle to UF, so they enjoy stealing prospective students from them. From my experience, for the exact same SAT/GPA, you are more likely to receive scholarship or grant money from FSU than UF.

now see, when I visited UF before I decided to become a nole a major part was that everyone at UF is so arrogant, even their staff. One girl asked why they don’t provide more scholarships / merit based aid. Her answer “We already bring in the top students, so we don’t feel like we need to offer that” Once those words came out of her mouth I made my decision, and I’m glad I did, I cannot believe the arrogance at UF, and ATrollGuide just so you know UF did the same thing with how much they tried to recruit national merit, they put millions into that program and just suddenly ended it because they got their recruitment where they wanted it. Those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

hi, i am a senior in high school and i was wondering if it would be easier to get admitted when applying for the October 17th deadline. My GPA isn’t that exciting tho. It’s a 3.0 unweighted, and i have a 1210 SAT. I would be taking the SAT in November and maybe October. I’ve also been excelling in all my classes. Would FSU see my grades for senior year? I have tons of ec’s and cs hours. I’m captain in both ice and roller hockey team. I’ve also received a couple letter of recommendations from teachers at my school. If anyone has advice for me, i would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Concerned Student.

first deadline is easier to get in…they may defer you until you retake the exams

Parent2noles your are very informative. I have a question about the FSU honors program is there any way i could contact you preferably via email? All help is appreciated!

The best way to determine your chances for Honors is to make a personal appointment with Admissions and Honors. What is posted by Florida State is accurate. There is no magic path to Honors.

Good luck!

I’m back again parent2noles, because you are so helpful. I received a call from an FSU senior admissions person and she told me i needed to take a math, which i plan on doing so. Does this mean that they are interested in me a lot, or would they do this for any student missing a class?

Honestly, the competition is fierce. They are just doing their job and Florida State finds time to address the concerns of thousands of applicants each year. Take nothing for granted and get whatever you need - and then some - done to give yourself the best chance for admission.

Chance me?

I am a Texas resident with a 4.76 GPA and I’m in the top 20% of my class. I have mostly As and a few Bs (throughout all of high school) and I have never gotten a C or failed a class

My SAT and ACT scores aren’t amazing because I test bad
–SAT: 1700
CR: 590
M: 610
W: 510
I took the SAT again and I’m just waiting on the results
–ACT: 27

I have taken/currently taking 6 AP classes: AP English II & III, AP US History, AP Gov, AP Econ, AP Stats and I’m currently in a Dual English class with a 98.

I’m in a lot of extra curricular activities: I’m the president of my school’s media production team, I am heavily involved in Best Buddies (and I’m a peer buddy), PEANUTS (a school organization helping incoming freshman), National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Student Council, and Class Council.

I just want to know my chances so I can prepare myself for either decision.
