So, over the past couple months/year I've been doing massive preparation for the AMC series of competitions - namely, AMC 12, AIME, and USAMO. (idk why, it's not like i'm going to male black MOP or anything. but i digress...) But, i realized i neglected something important - my school dosent offer the AMC 12. So, i was wondering how I would go about getting the AMC offered at my school. (i tried looking on aops, and all the links to the AMC site seem to be broken.. plus im already on cc.)

Also, i need a bit of advice with respect to this. specifically, how to i convince my math team teacher to offer the amc 12 -she'll look at it and know that most people on our team wont be able to solve much of anything, and so won't bother. any advice here would be great.

You may want to find other students who are willing to take the AMC10/12, because I think the school has to pay like $25 for ten or so tests (paying $25 for one test is quite expensive…). Or, you can take the AMC at a different school.

I don’t think they charge for AIME or USAMO, but they do charge if you take the alternate AIME.

I’m pretty sure if you ask the school and tell them you will pay the entire 25 or 50 dollars for it, they “should” be able to do it (altho maybe not). Then hopefully students sign up, pay 5 dollars and you get your money back mostly.

@ Evening Swan, Science Olympiad is a really awesome competition. It was what fostered my interest for science. That and my amazing 8th Grade Science teacher.

This is the AMC page that lists the colleges in each state that offered the AMC12 the past 2 years - the list is noticably longer last year than the year before. You can see if there is one near you. If there is, you can call the coordinator at that uni to get details. i bellieve you may be able to register online once you have a location.

DD had to do this 3 years ago as no HS in our state offered the AMC 12. Since then, they have made it a requirement at her HS that all accelerated math track students take the AMC12 both Freshman and Sophomore years. Our inquiries at the school led to the math department chair looking into being a site. You could be the catalyst for a similar decision at your school.
