How to get an internship while "abroad"

Hi everyone, I'm a junior who's trying to get an internship for next summer. I'm having problems because every recruiter I've spoken to wants me to interview with them on my college campus; this isn't possible because I can't be on campus during the proposed time period.

To clarify, I'm not really abroad, I'm just spending the fall semester in an area of the U.S. that's very far from my campus. I'm trying to find a way to just interview in the city that I'll be in, but I'm not sure if they'll let me do this.

Does anyone have experience with this, or know what I can do to get interviews in this situation? Thanks for any help.

Talk to interview about your situation and see if they can make special arrangements for you (eg. phone interview only). If you're just an average candidate, then your chances are slim.

Thanks, I've been trying to make special arrangements but I don't know how it will turn out. I think that I'm a better than average candidate, though I doubt that it really matters much.

I just don't understand what everyone else does to get internships if they're abroad during the fall semester. Like 25-30% of my class won't be on campus this fall. Are we all just SOL? That seems crazy to me...
