How to get an internship

can anyone tell me how exactly i can get an internship with a professor at a local university? should i just randomnly pick a name off the university's phonebook and email the guy? how exactly should i go about doing this? any advice is much appreciated. thanks

I'd like to know this as well.

You could try that but I don't think that will get you far. Most internships with university professors, particularly those in the sciences, are offered to undergraduate students. You might want to find programs that offers high school students mentorships with professors. I know that many students in the Intel Science Talent Search program link up with professors who specialize in the field the student is researching on.

can anyone give me names of specific programs (for which application due dates haven't expired yet and preferrably in NY). thanks again

Well, if you were going to go for random contact, you should at least send a letter. Emails are sort of immature when it comes to professional settings. Try to see if your parents or someone else knows someone at a local uni.

any other ideas. anybody know of any professors that i could work with in Albany,NY area. any suggestions in general for writing the letter to the professors? thanks in advance.

BUMP...anyone? any help at all would be appreciated
