So I'm transferring in the Fall and I'm taking a major requirement class at my CCC (History class) in the summer prior to transfer.

Just wondering how would I get credit for this at the UC? (Whichever one I end up at)

Bump bump bump

I thought you weren’t supposed to take pre-reqs in the summer before transfer. Are you sure the UC you want to transfer to is OK with that?

Not English or Math.

That’s kinda what I’m asking, my counselor said it was okay to do.

It’s just one class that assist says is major prep for UCSB.

Are you not allowed to transfer a summer course from CC to a UC?? Cause I had CSUN students at my CCC last summer taking one of my summer classes

You should still be able to get credit for it, you just can’t use it in your app to get points for pre-reqs or anything.

As for the actual process, no idea. When I did summer session right before transferring it was at my UC. I’d imagine you just talk to an adviser after you transfer and give them a transcript, etc.

What failure622 said, basically.

You know how unreliable CC counselors can be sometimes…

Okay so you can get credit for it (yeah I’m not using it for points to get admitted just to get ahead academically)

So basically just bring a transcript after I take the clasS?

It depends on the major. I took managerial accounting with someone in the Summer and he said he was already admitted into UCI Biz. If he had applied to UCLA Biz they would have rejected him. So generally speaking it’s rec you complete it by the Spring.

As for credit, you gotta make sure you get approval from your UC first before enrolling in the course. They’ll prob grant you credit, it’s just a formality.

Could I just put it in my planned coursework on the UC app when it opens back up?

I would like to find out an answer as well

Getting credit for the course taken in the last summer before transfer entry is different from using the course to meet requirements for transfer admission.

They probably don’t want to allow the latter because they have no way of verifying satisfactory completion of the summer course before you are too deep into enrolling at your new school. But getting credit (or subject credit if you are already over 70 semester units of CC credit) would be a different matter. If you really want to be sure, check with your new school to see if there are any special rules for getting credit for such a course.

It’s just to meet a pre-major requirement for Sociology listed on assist.org

Has anyone seen a thread that would relate to this with a forsure answer?

@Failure622 - How were you able to go to the summer session at a UC being barely admitted?

Thanks

It depends on the UC.

You do know that certain ones offer summer programs that let you finish some needed prerequisites? Like this one at UCSB: [Office of Summer Sessions | Transitions](http://summer.ucsb.edu/public/category/programArea.do?method=load&selectedProgramAreaId=10267&leftNav=true)

Matt4200: Berkeley has something called Transfer Edge (they also have a freshman version) that makes summer session a bit easier. Generally speaking, summer classes fill up pretty slowly, so there are still seats. Also, even if you’re not officially a student, summer rules are different, and often allow just about anyone to enroll. Decisions also tend to come out in the middle of spring semester, which leaves plenty of time to register. If your major happens to be one where pre-reqs are really hard to find (Berkeley EECS has ~6 rare lower divs), summer session can really help out.

Also, if you want a for-sure answer on CCC summer session pre-transfer, call the UC and ask. That’s about as official as it gets.

Just reading over it and the summer costs it’s like $1400 to take 5 units there over summer :/

I will have to contact them, would it be my major department or who…? To ask if they’ll accept a summer course completed at my CCC
