Right now I have a 33 composite score which I am very proud of but only a 29 on the english section. I want to be competitive for ivy league schools and most how a their 25 percentile above a 29. First of all should I retake it and how important are the subscores campaired to the composite score? What would you say is the best way to get my english scores up (Other than reading a lot of books in my free time because its a little late for that)? Any good review books or tips for the english section? Should you read the whole story or just the sentance that the error is in? Thanks

I would personally recommend reviewing and memorizing grammar rules and then doing practice tests. Check out SparkNotes ACT Help (I found the English review to be very helpful). Also, use this forum because it has a lot of good ACT prep advice. Check out Jeandevaches’ Guide to the ACT (Just search the forum for it). There are some very simple and helpful tips for the English section.

Once you have reviewed some grammar and specific strategies, do a few practice tests to see how your score improves. If you don’t already have it, the Real ACT Prep Guide (The Red Book) is good for its five official ACT practice tests.

Good luck on improving your English score and I hope you get into your dream school!
