So I received a email today saying that freshman can get free tuition for being in state and receive less than 60k a year. I was wondering if I can be considered as a state residence if I decide to go to UIUC from another state. Does being born in Illinois help?
Establishing residency in another state to gain access to resident tuition is very difficult…some states have higher thresholds and are less predictable than others…changing residency is not an easy win…
You’re in-state if your parents have lived there, paid taxes there, can vote there. If they moved to another state you’re not eligible, unless they move now.
Being born in Illinois has no bearing on in state tuition if you no longer live there.
