How to get in

I'm really interested in Northeastern, I absolutely love it! I was wondering what Northeastern is mostly interested in when looking at an application. I know they look to see if the applicant attended a visit, which I have done. Would they also like me to attend an info session held at my school? Also, what else are their "hooks" in an app? Because I'd their coop program, would having background in your intended major be helpful? I have two internships this summer, at a local newspaper and at a national magazine (I'm interested in communications & business, but mostly comm). I have also gone to 3 summer programs at colleges in journalism, comm, and business. Obviously NEU looks for strong academics and test scores, but overall what do they like to see? Thanks!

My stats were nothing too extraordinary overall, but I did have a good resume of things related to my intended major. Pretty much all of my extracurriculars fell into the English, writing, etc. areas, and I ended up scoring the most highly in the English portion of the ACT. I think the leadership positions in these fields are what were the deciding factors in being admitted. Also, pretty much everyone I’ve met who has gotten in has shed light on an interest in exploring and pursuing their interests in their applications. There are a surprising number of kids who have lived in another country or have some experience in their professional field upon applying.

With all of their somewhat unconventional admittance opportunities (ie. the NU.in program, the General Studies program), NU seems to make an effort to accept kids who are unique and valuable in some way, even if their stats are inconsistent or somewhat below par.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

My Opinion. Scores and GPA are an obvious answer. They also seem to appreciate someone who has a genuine interest in exploring the world beyond their comfort zone. My advice is to apply early action if you are truly interested. Doing so demonstrates an enhanced interest in NU and the acceptance rate is higher (historically)

Also, you are going to want to be in at least the middle range for all their stats: ie SAT scores and GPA to feel comfortable with admission. Those numbers keep rising every year and it is getting more and more competitive. Good Luck and definately go for EA.
