Hi,
I'm a freshman right now and I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on getting in. I'm in the highest classes possible (besides algebra and biology)

Are you a freshman in college or high school? Specific stats?

Based on the post (algebra and biology) I’m guessing this is a high school freshman.

The main thing is get good grades, and when you take the ACT study for it, seriously.

In high school people tend to overweight the importance of extracurriculars and volunteering. Those things can help a little, but it’s much more important to get good grades, take harder classes, and do well on the ACT.

Doing extracurriculars just because you want to improve your odds of getting into schools is fairly obvious, and probably doesn’t help. Any extracurriculars you do, you should be actually interested in. Don’t bother with anything that’s just to make you look good to colleges, chances are it won’t help.

You can also take the SAT, obviously… Also, are you in-state or out of state? Easier to get in if you are in-state, and MUCH more affordable. Don’t set your cap for a school that you can’t pay for. But generally excellent grades, excellent test scores, and strong commitment to a few ECs is a good route.

Good grades is key (obviously). You have a better chance with a high GPA in easier classes than a low one in the hardest possible. Take the hardest possible level that allows you to still get an A.
