I want to rush during my spring semester. But how do i get in?

I'm a huge novice in this realm... so tell me everything? How do they pick their members? What's the process like? Do they simply judge you by the conversations you have with them? The impressions you give them? Any tips on how to present myself?

I’m in a fraternity, but I can only assume the behind-the-scenes process is similar.

Basically, you will attend rush events, during which you will meet a bunch of sisters. After the day’s rush events are over, the sisters will get together and discuss the people they have met somehow (my fraternity is small enough that we do this together; there might be more fragmentation in a larger institution). They will “flush” people they don’t like (people they think would somehow be detrimental to the pledge class) and scheme to get people they like to come around more.

As you get to know more sisters, a critical mass of people that like you will (hopefully) eventually form, and the sisterhood will eventually decide to bid you. We usually bid anyone 1/2 or so of the brotherhood is really willing to vouch for, though we have a unanimous bid process (people usually take 2-3 votes to actually receive a bid). One strategy that worked well for me was to get really close to a few ‘contacts’ who would really vouch for you–advocates.

In short, you want to come off as a genuine and likable person. This requires a great deal of socializing during rush, but if you can pull it off, then you will be swimming in bids.

@acamanic and who exactly are the ‘people’ who vouch/vote for you? is it only the ‘seniors’ of the house? or is it anyone in the house?
