Hi Everyone! I'm a rising senior in high school and am looking to go into business. My goal is to attend a top business school ( Harvard B-School, MIT Sloan School of Management, Wharton School of business etc..). I was wondering if anyone can give any tips/advice on what I can do to prepare myself? Is there anything I can start doing before freshman year?

Get no less than an A+ in all the classes will help you. In addition, participate some meaningful EC’s, start a business and be successful, join a big company and become managers etc. will give you more leverage to get in Top MBA program.

Are you taking a strong AP/IB-type courseload that might allow you to place out of basic classes in college? That will grant you more flexibility in double-majoring or taking higher-level Economics/Statistics classes as an undergraduate. Top-notch GPA and GMAT scores are important, but most MBA programs prefer students who have worked for a few years, or who have hands-on professional experience of some sort. Pursue challenging, unusual internship opportunities wherever possible. Specialization can be helpful. Simply announcing that you want to work on Wall Street and earn millions won’t separate you from the pack. STEM majors are highly sought after now, but so are people with strong foreign-language skills, or exceptional abilities in a field.

If you are talking undergrad, first do some more research because Harvard doesn’t have undergrad business and Sloan’s undergraduate program has a narrow focus. Wharton undergrad is super competitive and is a reach for anyone even with great grades, standardized test, ECs, recommendations etc. If you get in, I’m sure you will be more than qualified to do well. IMO, the key is to stay on top of your work once classes start. I’d also be sure to come up with a more comprehensive list that includes match and safety schools as well as reaches.

If you are talking grad school, I’d take a breath and not worry about it yet – in short you will need outstanding college grades, outstanding GMATs, outstanding recommendations, and at least 2 years of solid meaningful work experience to be considered at the top MBA schools.
