belle is so lucky hes already there and im only a freshmen in highschool i wana be in harvard right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really dislike being mocked..

I'm really confused on how it's Xbones9694 who's being mocked...but still...whoever is being mocked, it's unkind and extremely immature.
And "belle" is a girl, thank you very much. Hence the name. Not difficult to figure out. Geez.

For clarification:

marc98 is, in essence, mocking all those who aspire to be admitted to an Ivy League, or, really, anyone who takes higher education seriously. This can be easily assumed from the history of marc98's posts.

Now, if marc98 is, in fact, genuine, I have made a huge ass of myself, and, I apologize. =P

well marc kind of has a point. wanting to do well in life and get into a good college is not the same as being obsessive about one school mainly because of hearsay (omg harvard is THE BEST i mean come on ITS HARVARd!!! WOOHOO Circular logic!!)

In hindsight, I think marc98 may be genuine.

As such, I am an ass and I apologize =P

haha no, dear xbones, i'm 100% sure he's kidding.

(I AM MARC98)i think i actually believe in that dream and i intend to follow it it because i im trying my best to make it i wana take all my classes seriously, for i want to do my best.
i understand im at the bottom but i wish to make it to the top
ill do what ever it takes
ill take 7 APs if i have too
ill study as long as i can to get a 2310 plus on the sats
I also am going into my freshmen year in hs and i plan to ace
it
i have studied already and i am prepared so that is why i have scheduled the rest of my summer to run cross country and study for the upcoming SAT in my junior year
i have also gotten a head start on chemistry, and this school year i would like go into physics
eventhough im taking honors biology
i have also finished math2h by studying so i know it all
and for spanish i have bought a book to help me study and i have decided that i will only take spanish until my 10 th grade year in which ill take the New york state regents and finish it
im not going to ruin my GPA by taking AP spanish, cause of what i hear most fail it and i am still capable of getting in a Iv league w/o it
I plan to take as many other AP classes as i am able, for my junior year i am planning to take AP english, AP us history, AP Physics C, AP cal., and the rest shall include electives.
I have already studied for my whole 9th grade in 8th grade as i did my 8th grade to, 8th grade was easy for me to comprehend
and i promise ill do my best
HARVARD is my dream and i understand i need to work hard

somebody earlier said that if you didn't have a 1500, you shouldn't even try. I was going to apply to harvard, but it just seems hopeless sometimes. I'm not a genius, and I took the SAT 4 times to get a 1490 and i am studying like crazy for my SAT 2s, but its just hard to find motivation sometimes when it feels hopeless. Should I keep trying and still apply?

Marc98, you are creepy.

llabesab always try :D.

Reach for the stars! Throw your arms away if you have to!

it's great that u kno u need to work hard, because u need to if u want to get into harvard
but remember to enjoy high school and try to live in the present - high school is a great time that goes by fast
sometimes if u set ur sights on just one school u can set urself up for failure b/c nothing is certain in college admissions
i loved high school and focused on not only working hard but enjoying my friends, when i got to applying for colleges i just figured i would apply and go where i was accepted and liked - one can be happy in many different situations

Very true, Skigirl290...don't necessarily set your sights on one school, but never be afraid to apply somewhere just because you think it's "too hard" or something...even my mom (!!!) thought I wouldn't get into Harvard (at least she didn't discourage me from applying, as many others did)...you never know. You're right, though...enjoy the present and make sure that your future (as paradoxical as this sounds) doesn't ruin the present.

well said, lowellbelle
(no one gets into harvard, its not weird that your mother didn't think that you would be in that 8% of the population... at least she was realistic. Its probably worse to have parents with drastically unrealistic goals for their kids - then no one wins)

thank you :)
That's true...I guess I was just annoyed that of all people she didn't believe in me...well, more like she didn't believe in the statistics. I really think you're right about the over-inflated expectations of parents...it's ridiculous, frankly, and it's ruined countless high school experiences, if not lives (your childhood/adolescence really does affect you later!). If you think about it, an 8% acceptance rate (I think it was 9.1% for our class...not sure though) is a 92% rejection rate...gah.

I've really enjoyed reading this thread. I, too, am yet another Harvard hopeful. I'm curious to know if major choice affects your acceptance chances. For instance, I've set my heart on archaeology, which is not the most popular of majors. I wonder if that adds anything to my application.

omg lowellbelle!
Thanks so much for this post. I think most seniors are in the mental break down stage (if not I am!) and this post really cheered me up and gave me good advice.

Hey all. I'm a high school freshman, so please stoop down to my vocabulary level if you feel the need :P. I guess it's a good idea to start now, and I'd like some opinions.

I'm currently taking one AP course and 4 Honors courses. My first marking period passed and I received all A's, etc. (4.8 GPA) I'm only in one extracurricular activity, which is Caring for Kids and Critters, but I take a some courses in my local college. I know Spanish and English fluently, considering I'm Hispanic, and am currently enrolled in French and Italian courses. I stopped taking Capoeira for a while, but now I'm planning on going back to Capoeira, and also looking forward to taking Portuguese classes next year. I'm also planning on starting Community Service as soon as possible, as well as going to local band program to continue playing the flute.

Phew. That was a lot of writing.
Obviously, I can't post any SAT/ACT scores, only my 4.8 GPA which is truly insignificant considering I just started high school. I'm an early Harvard Hopeful .. what do you guys think? Is this enough? What should I add/take away? My passion is obviously languages, but it doesn't have a thing to do with law, which is my dream career. What should I do? Continue as I am? Change my dream career into one suitable with my passion? If so, what does Harvard offer language-related? So many questions, so little time .. well, four years worth of time. Whatever.

How much will be being African-American help with getting into a school like Harvard? Will it help a tinge or a great deal if you are a minority and you do well in school?

wow...this is sad

freshman in high school trying to plan ahead for Harvard...do people not realize that ivy league graduates are statistically not more successful or learn anything more than a graduate from say Penn State or University of California, the only reason i would go to an ivy over a great public school is because of the massive financial endowment they have, hence alot of financial aid
