How to get into IB

Hello. I would like to know what courses I should take in order to get into an IB firm. Do they have any requirements besides taking econ. Please, offer any suggestions.

a good site that could help you out (along with this one) is www.ibankingoasis.com/forum

finance and other business majors

There aren't any REQUIRED courses, but there are SUGGESTED courses to help you prepare for the more technical interviews.

Introduction to Finance (obviously)
Financial Statement Analysis (accounting)
Intermediate Financial Accounting
Something along the lines of Corporate Financing Decisions, maybe called Corporate Finance in some schools

Portfolio analysis and courses about derivatives might help also. Very few business school offer specialized courses in M&A. I know Stern does. They even have a course called Investment Banking.

The Ross Career Development Center has its own guide for i-banking, and it says that i-bankers should actually focus on developing their accounting skills and not just finance. So you might want to do some extra accounting courses like cost accounting.

I don't think econ will help if you're in the business program of your school, but if you don't have finance, econ is the next best thing.

Go to Wharton.

just kidding.
