How to get into Parsons as a transfer?

I've always had a secret dream of going to Parsons and becoming a fashion designer (ever since I made clothes for my Barbie dolls), but I didn't apply to Parsons for freshman admission; instead, I applied to and am attending a state university in California. I told myself I needed to develop my skills and build a portfolio first. So here I am, just finishing my first quarter as a studio art major at my university. I would have about 20 art units by the end of this school year, and I'm really not liking the art program here.

So what would I need to be accepted? What do I have to do or should do?

I really have to decide whether to stay in art and transfer out to pursue some sort of design career path or stay at my college and change my major right now to gear me towards becoming a school teacher. Hopefully before my winter quarter schedule becomes final.

Should I ditch this art thing? The steps to becoming a teacher seem much clearer and simpler.

“If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough.”

All I really have to say is if you really love fashion and designing it, have basic sewing skills, and taste, then go for Parsons. What’s there to lose in trying if it’s what you really want to do?

If you do plan on attending Parsons in the future, try not to take so many art courses. Parsons only transfers liberal arts credits. They want you to earn your art credits at their school.

There is more info about transferring on their website, parsons.edu.

Honestly, just do whatever you think will make you truly happy.
I applied to Parsons this year and am waiting for a letter. My major would be fashion design. I hope to teach a fashion or art course in college when I’m around a retiring age.
So, you can teach and design.
As corny as it is, follow your heart. :]
