How to get into Tisch

Im currently in Community college, first semester. I have a 3.9 gpa and am making sure it stays there. I am taking Gen. Ed classes and some theatre classes as well. I am going to start making student films this summer, I have a personal project to work on. I was wondering what I can do to help me get into Tisch for fall of 2016. I know it is competitive so I want to really up my chances.

This is such a hard question to answer. I think Tisch probably has one of the most diverse and unique student pools…but then again you can say that for the entire university. Your chances are supposed to be better if you’re going to apply as a transfer student. But it seems to me that they want unique and passionate people more than anything. You’re good on the whole “good grades” thing it seems lol.

You can find out right now what the prompts are for the essays that Tisch requires and I highly suggest starting on them NOW. You want to put your heart and soul into them things. Let them know who you are and don’t hold back! Also, if possible, take every film/production/sound/editing course your school offers.

The best advice that I got was that Tisch is looking for the next generation. Keep that in mind.

I’m not very good at this but some of the best advice I heard was on YouTube. (Particularly from a youtuber named Madison Lutz)! Good luck and do your research!

First off, you can definitely transfer from a community college with those grades. I know plenty of people who have.

As far as increasing your chances, what I’ve heard from one of my former professors, who is on the admissions committee, is that they’re really looking for people that have something to say about the world. They feel that they can teach you how to turn your ideas into a film, but that can teach you to have good ideas.
