I have been admitted by a college that I like, but the college did not give me enough FA, I want to talk to the school, but how can I persuade them to offer me more FA?....I am so worried~~~is there anyone who can give me some advice? I'd appreciate!!!

I cannot take credit for this information - it is from a great cc’er from another forum, whose name I do not recall. She gets all the credit.

“A sincere letter from the STUDENT is the best approach. Tell them how much you love this college and how much you would like to attend. Mention what you have to offer as a student (previous HS involvement in activities, strong interest in community service etc) Ask politely if a review of the FA award is possible and if there are any special circumstances mention them. Ask if there’s a possibility of an RA position as a freshman to help with costs. There usually isn’t for freshman but it shows you are trying to come up with ideas to be able to attend. Make it heart felt and sincere. I would then follow up with the FA advisor via phone in about a week. Good Luck!!”

I fully agree with the advice in post #2…except for the RA thing. What possible point is there in asking about positions that you KNOW schools do NOT give to freshmen?

Do the other things mentioned…it’s all you really can do.

I actually made a call today to my school’s finaid office. However they told me I wasn’t eligible. It was a state school tho, so if your school is private they may have more funds to give out.
