How many of you have been published in something? I'm talking about science-related journals or magazines or conferences. How good or significant does your work have to be in order to get published? I'm still in hs now by the way.

getting published is not easy for academics/researchers, let alone for an undergraduate student with no degree and little to no work experience. to some people, a publication in a major scientific journal (JACS, Nature, Science, Cell, Appl. Phys. Lett., Tetrahedron, etc.) means career advancement or even the survival of their research. the high quality of the papers published in Science, for example, is a result of a lot of painstaking work in science (physics, engineering, biology, chemistry, etc.). i really doubt an undergrad can easily be published in a high level scientific journal, but a chance for maybe second authorship/acknowledgement is higher in lesser known journals.

you're in high school...don't worry about this stuff. worry about getting into college, not medical school. you don't even need to be published (or do research) in order to get into medical school. and if you really want to get involved with these things in college, make sure it's out of your own interest...not because they're means means to an end (things that are done that way rarely work out well).
