What is the best way to get into a college and play basketball. I have a 3.9 GPA.

Good luck. I know of some uber qualified highly recruited athletes who did not get in, despite being top shelf academically AND athletically. Caltech is looking for a really uniquely qualified kind of student…a 2400 SAT alone won’t cut it, it would seem. Gotta be the real deal, and who really knows what they consider to be “enough”. My guess is the near perfect test scores in math and science, lots of math/sci ECs, and some sort of wow factor.

If grades and scores are near perfect, athletic hook can open the door. D15 was recruited and her friend will be attending Caltech. Just playing the sport will not cut it, but if you are truly a college level basketball player, you should contact the coach.

Caltech lost 310 basketball games in a row - 26 years worth! I think they admit the most highly qualified academic applicants, and pick the best basketball team they can from the student body.

If they are recruiting basketball players, they really, really suck at it.

Caltech is a tough nut to crack! That’s for sure. Use every angle you can to help your admission, and keep your stats super high.

Lol. Not sure athletics will help you much there.
I have to say that the Caltech coach has worked really hard to help my son gain admission…It’s unlikely that he’ll be accepted as his stats aren’t perfect (though his math scores are). She told us that unlike other schools Caltech wants to know what you had for breakfast and wants you to demonstrate a lifelong love of math and science.
DS wait listed!
Cal Tech does NOT RECRUIT basketball talent… If you get accepted you are ON the basketball team, they aren’t really very good at all think maybe a fair high school team talent level.
