Ok, so I am a senior right now and my sport is cross country. The school I am interested in is UCSB. What I am asking is what do I do to show I am interested in UCSB? My gpa is 3.5 and I take AP and IB classes but I am sure there are people out there with way better academic stats than I. I have filled out the UCSB questionnaire but there must be something else I could do? Perhaps email or call the coach (what would I ask/say if I email or call the coach and is that even allowed?)? What should I do as I am clueless when it comes to recruiting =/

Hey, your grades are fine. The question is if your times are fast enough to interest the coach. If you feel your questionnaire may have fallen through the cracks, email the coach a little intro with your best times, class rank and test scores.

To see if your times are competitive, compare them to the times of the runners at UCSB now. Here are links to the men’s and women’s rosters.

When you click on a runner’s name, you’ll see their times. If your times are competitive, follow varska’s advice and email the coach.

Or you could call the coach. Phone calls are allowed.

Good luck.

Nice, thanks for all the info =) I can’t seem to find the head coach’s email, anybody know what it is?

There is a form that you can fill out on the website. It looks like it goes directly to the coach, but I guess you could always send a supplemental email letting him/her know you are especially interested.

I guess that must be the first test to determine if you’re resourceful enough to handle college, lol. Hint: staff directory

Lol, nvm must have overlooked it…

Hmm, another question. If I email the coach with info etc should I include a phone number (home)? And if I do, will they actually call? My answering machine is busted so if I was never home when they called I would never know so would it be wise to buy a new answering machine? o.o

include your name
address
home and cell phones
email address.

That is fine. Good luck and be sure to follow the advice above–
You need to really research the team–Be sure to look for the media guide online.
Also–perhaps google the freshman to see what their stats were in highschool–there may be results from big events posted online.

Understand too that many coaches have been following athletes through the jr yr performances.

I’m borrowing this from another wise poster on another site, but this is so true for any sport any time:

recruited = exposure + talent + desire

If you take any one of those away, and the formula doesn’t work.

^ and luck

Luck = Opportunity + Preparation

When I email the coach should I include my nickname? Because when I google myself all of my times on various websites have my nickname listed.

Read varska’s comment above. Show some initiative before throwing out idle questions. Try googling your question before coming to the board. You’ll get further into your recruitment and really need this help and folks will not reply as quickly if you don’t establish a good history of well thought out questions.

This link was on the first google search I did of Athletic Recruiting Resumes.

^^ applause here! Needed to be said

I used tennisrecruiting.net. It’s great, but just for tennis haha.

Sent a few emails out to colleges im interested in, got a couple back who are interested in recruiting but not my top choice. I sent the emails out about 4 days ago and got a few responses the next day and the day after and have yet to recieve emails from the remainder of the schools although it has been 5 days now. Does that mean they are not interested or that they just don’t send out emails as fast as the other schools (xD)? Like I said, my top choice did not email back so should I still email them my results from races in the future (big ones coming up) or just stop? I have only sent them one email total.

We loved it …sign up, its free. Post as much info as you can, videos, photos, SAT’s but only if they are good, if they are less than 820 DO NOT POST until you get them up…if you don’t meet that minimum you CANNOT be recruited by a D2 School, only D1 and D3 (no minimum per NCAA…but some schools have their own “internal” minimums…Good LuCK!
