how to get scholarships

ive got a 1580 SAT, 3.5 UW GPA, 4.2 W GPA, and amazing ECs. My income is very high but what places could i expect a scholarship so that i would pay 10k a year or less

The best scholarships come from colleges where you get accepted.

So…you need to apply to places where your stats will get you a full tuition or higher scholarship.

Start with University of Alabama.

You probably should pay attention to the GPA aspect of your scholarship search. 3.5 might well cause you some angst. You are looking for full tuition as R&B costs at least 10K. What are your local options?.

@Sybylla im from Mississippi but i really want to go out of state and if the school is a highly ranked LAC or in the usnews 100 my parents are willing to pay 20-25k per year.

If the school is a highly ranked LAC like Williams or Amherst…or the like…they give NEED based aid only. To get a cost of $25000, your family income would need to be in the $80,000 a year range.

Is it?

$10K would come close to covering room and board at many schools, but you’d need to plan to also work and/or take a student loan, I’d think, even with a full tuition scholarship. Or live off campus, if that is an option.

$20-25K per year is hard but doable if your stats are high for the school. So to get merit to bring down the cost of a “USNews 100” you’d want to look at the bottom of the list and go up from there.

my family income is 200k

Your GPA is a little bit low but that may be due to your school. Your best bet would be your in-state flagship(s). For OOS public, you need to look for full ride or at least full tuition scholarships to make it affordable. You should check carefully that some schools may require early application to be considered for large merit aids.

Your GPA is a little bit low but as was mentioned, we don’t know your school. Look for schools where your numbers are at the top … and don’t focus on the top 50… you will need to go down in the rankings in order to get the merit that you need.

Your SAT score is outstanding ( I assume it’s 2 part) and you stated that your ECs are amazing. I know somebody who recently got a full ride ( merit) to an outstanding top university with grades and scores that were very average for the school. You might want to try for 1-2 of these awards, knowing of course that they would be a long shot. I would not put all of my eggs in that basket, but if you have the time and application fee $ you could certainly try.

Most of your applications need to be at schools that are lower down in the rankings… and don’t ignore your in-state flagship.

Your GPA may prevent you from getting some scholarships at some schools that want a 3.75+ UW GPA, but there are a few schools that will give good-sized awards for your SAT and your GPA.

What is your major and career goal?

@mom2collegekids premed

Oh yes, I forgot your other thread.

Please ask your parents how much they want to pay.

How serious are you about going to med school? If very serious, then pick a school that won’t cost a lot AND where you will more likely get top grades.

Every year we see strong students choosing top schools for premed and they often quickly end up with a GPA that isn’t med school worthy. If they had gone to a good-but-not-top school, likely their GPA would be better.
