How to get the most out of a bu college visit

I’m going to BU next week, and I want to get the most out of my day there. It’s a Saturday so I can’t really sit in on a class or anything like that… What should I check out? Any questions I should be sure to ask? How about spots on campus that I should see? Thanks…!

Do you know which college you are going to apply to within BU? If so, definitely check out that particular college and look at the classrooms. The library is a must and dorms as this is where you will spend the most time. Also check out at least 2 of the dining halls (again much time spent there). The fit/rec center is fabulous and their bookstore, which is a Barnes and Noble is like one of the biggest in the country. If you are interested in science make sure you can see some of the labs. The student union is very nice too.

What’s the difference between the Open House and a Student Visit?

Definitely walk down Bay State Road and throughout campus (from Kenmore to West) to get a sense of the different types of housing and buildings. Besides what westie22 said, I’d also take a look at Student Village 2 if you can (I know rooms are usually open to admitted students certain days), even though you won’t be living there freshman year. It’s awesome! I’d also visit the student union (GSU).

Take a tour to get a quick glimpse at some of BU! Ask your tour guide any questions that you have about BU too…seriously, just ask whatever you’re curious about along the way. I’m actually a tour guide/Admissions Ambassador here. Questions make tours so much more fun for us and you!

After the tour, I’d recommend checking out the West Campus area as some have said too. Just seeing how everything is laid out down there is worth the walk in my opinion.

If you haven’t been to Boston before, you could take the t to some wonderful historic site in downtown Boston along the freedom trail. I would ask random students to point you toward the BU Beach, and maybe even call Admissions to see if you can get any perks such as a meal pass or pass to FitRec. Have you already been admitted? My DD and I always approached random students to ask what they liked and didn’t like. You can get a pretty good sense if you ask five or six.
