i have a question about how to get to prom.

i'm a girl, my best friend is a guy. the problem is, he is gay and he has not come out yet. my HS is extremely close-minded as a whole and he trusted me enough to tell me. we are going to sit at the same table with a bunch of friends. the problem is, others are all getting limo/parents to drive them.

we want to get there together, but we don't want our parents to drive us together because obviously, they will think we are each other's date (which will be super awkward)...

the only other option i can think of is cab...is there a cheaper way of doing it?

What's wrong with telling them you guys are just friends?

to be honest, my area is extremely close-minded. so are our parents

if you go together on prom night, you are each other's date...and we both come from a rather "blue-collar"back ground where parents will joke about such things....

i just dont want to add any awkwardness to this night. sigh...

Could you each find your own ride and meet each other there or is getting there together an absolute must?

Sorry, I'm having a hard time understanding the whole situation. xD

I don't know, if worse comes to worst I say just bite the bullet and go. They're your family. If you go alone, they'll tease you, if you go with a friend, they'll tease you. It what they do.

what i meant by that was our parents, especially our dads, make jokes about our friends of opposite sex, it's like they expect us to date and marry them all @@!! and have kids, blablabla LOL

if anything, we will just go there separately...but is there anyway to get there together that is cheaper than cab?

That's what dads do! ;) But if you're really bent on getting there together without your parents driving, maybe you can organize a carpool or bum a ride from one of your friends. I take it you don't drive? Check to see if any of your friends who are going in limos still have available seats and offer to chip in some money. I've had a few friends who took the bus and subway systems fully clad in tuxedos and prom dresses.

I am taken aback by your comment... It's rather elitist and out of touch with our nation's traditions and culture... jk :P

Anyways, wouldn't taking the bus be more awkward?

Just have your parents drive you. Who cares what they think. My best friend is a guy and it doesn't matter how many times I tell my parents he has a girlfriend, they are convinced we are dating, but they trust us, so it really doesn't affect anything, just makes for a few rather awkward conversations with my parents after my friend leaves. A small price to pay.

I don't know where you live but we have an airport shuttle that also will drive to proms, etc. It is sometimes less than a cab and they will come back and get you at the end.
