Hi! I'm starting to plan how to get to/from Stanford on my breaks, and I think the Marguerite does not run to/from the Palo Alto Station to/from Stanford during the day on weekends. So I was wondering, for example, how can I get to the Palo Alto Station from Stanford on a weekend during morning and afternoon hours (and vice versa)? I will be traveling to Stanford from SJC, and plan to use the VTA and Caltrain, btw.

just walk down palm drive :-) i've done it a couple of times

How long would the walk normally take (so I can plan out my schedule for traveling)? How far is the Palo Alto Station away from campus?

It takes awhile, especially if you have bags. A cab will cost less than $10, so I recommend that.

It is probably a couple of miles.

It took me 20 minutes, but I wasn't carrying luggage.

The Marguerite actually does run on weekends. Check out the schedule for the Shopping Express http://transportation.stanford.edu/marguerite/schedules/Shopping_9-18-2006.pdf It is slightly troublesome that it only runs every 45 minutes, so you may have to wait at the train station a while before the shuttle arrives.

On second thought.... that schedule only applies from 9/18 on. If you are arriving on the 17th or earlier I suppose this doesn't apply =[ Perhaps this information may be useful in the future anyways.

Have you considered taking a shared ride shuttle from SJC to Stanford? They'll go right to your dorm. You'll probably have to wait for other people at the airport so it might take a while, but it is much easier than walking around and taking the train. Supershuttle charges $26. I especially recommend this because I think it would be difficult to walk from the Palo Alto train station to your dorm with luggage.

Take your bike on the train or bus- you're allowed to- it will cut down drastically on the time it takes to get to the station from campus.

It took me about 30 minutes to make the walk after Admit Weekend (for some reason Marguerite didn't run that day, dunno why) with a backpack and a rolling suitcase. It wasn't that bad, really.
