How To Get To UCSC?

i live in LA area. this spring break, my family drove to UCSC for the spring spotlight. it took us more than 7 hours to get there, which is brutal. the ride was exhausting and boring, i don’t want to to it again. I have 2 questions:

are there buses, or trains that can get me straight to UCSC from LA?

how do you guys get to UCSC?

thank you for your time =]

Southwest is pretty cheap and only takes about an hour and a half to get to San Jose Airport, and the drive from there to UCSC takes about a half hour.

I am sure there are buses of some kind but I'd always choose flying because it is much more covenient.

There are a couple options. Driving, the best route to take is 5 > 46 > 101 > 183 > 1.

It takes me 5 1/2 hours to get to/from LA. You can also do a straight shoot up the 5, or a long rambling route up the 101.

This is somewhat dependent on what part of LA you're from, but this is the route many of my friends and I have learned to love.

Before I had a car I flew southwest from Burbank to SJ, 50 minutes. I think LAX is only 10 mins longer. You can either get a friend to pick you up at the airport, take the airport express (like $50) or public transit (bus to caltrain, caltrain, bus across highway 17, bus from metro to campus). All are viable options.

There's always Greyhound, and MegaBus. I think there are train options if you start in SJ, but they take like 8-10 hours.

you can fly into San Jose or Monterey the drive is aboout 35 min from SJ and 40 min or so from Monterey. The Greyhound is way slower than 7 hours and there are no trains. Sorry

How do I get to Santa Cruz? South on 101 to 92 West and then South on 1 which becomes Mission Left on Bay and you are there. :)
