That is, other than “study, study, study”…?
Kidding aside, I need to figure out the best way to fly into Williamstown for the “Previews” days with my son who was accepted RD. Because of the location, there’s no direct flight into Albany Int. Airport and all flights land there rather late at night. Instead of trying to figure out the most efficient way to get there via googling, I thought it’d save me time to ask those with experience with the transportation in and out of Williamstown. Is it better to get a direct flight to Boston, rent a car and drive to Willamstown or fly into Albany late at night, stay at a nearby hotel and have the host pick us up the following day?
Bradley (Hartford) is another option. Depends where you are flying from. La Guardia is not much further than Logan if airline connections and availability are an issue.
Well, upon further searching for flights, I did find one that lands at Albany around 6:45 p.m., so that’s not bad. The flight is from Denver with 1 stop. It’s nearly a 7 hour flight, but that seems to be the best option. Williams offers a shuttle service, so it’d be better to take this option than landing in some other airports and have to rent a car and drive more than 2 hours to get to Williamstown. I’m assuming that most everyone who comes in from out of state flies into Albany?
If the Albany shuttle timing isn’t convenient,your son could consider taking a taxi. Another option is Norm’s Airport and Limousine which has been driving Williams kids for years.

I would also check Uber.
At the start and end of semesters and breaks Williams operates shuttle service from Manhattan and from Boston Airport. Peter Pan bus line also operates from Manhattan to Williamstown. Getting from one of the New York airports to the bus stop in Manhattan is a bit of a schlepp, but depending where you’re coming from may be less so than getting to Hartford or Albany.
If there’s a Previews Facebook page, your son may be able to reach out to other attendees for ride-share opportunities.
Getting to Williams is always a hassle, but it gets easier over time (and it’s definitely worth the trouble).
If you’re going together, renting a car and being a bit mobile makes sense, gives you a way to look around. And means you leave for the return flight at your own convenience, no uncertainty about timing a ride.
@momrath @lookingforward - Thank you. Very helpful!
I missed the point that you would be accompanying your son. I would lean toward renting a car and driving from Boston or Albany. You’d get to see more of the Berkshire countryside which to me is a major draw of Williams.
