hello, i am planning on applying for transfer, but each of my classes have over 1000 students, and the professor doesn't really care, they are inaccessable, because i have consecutive classes, there's no time i can communicate with them. So obviously when i apply, i won't get recs. What should i do in my case?

where are you applying nebyreborn?

cornell, dartmouth and other top 25 schools.

Some schools say that you can substitute an alternative rec for one professor rec. For the other one I would try one of two things. If you are transfering for the spring, you seem to not have an option of making a huge effort to find them in spare time (even if it is awkward becasue of the class size). Also, I know some schools allow TAs to write a reccomendation. But if you are stuck with needing a professor rec within the next few weeks you may just have to grit your teeth and ask. Since none of them know you, no matter what you do you wont get a great reccomendation. But I would go talk to them, explain your situation and type up a page or so about who you are, you're goals and reasons for transfering. I would pick a prof whose class you did very very well in. Or, pick the prof who considers himself to be a hard-ass. If you do well in a class like this the prof will at least have respect for your work ethic and intelligence even though he does not know you.
