Well I'm not 100 % on where I will be committing next year, but I pretty much have it narrowed down to three schools (Marquette,Upitt, and Virginia if I get in). I've posted my response a roomate survey that each school had on their facebook pages, and after looking at everyone else, I've found a few people that look like they'd be good roomates. How would I got about messaging them and introducing myself, I mean, I just don't want it to seem random/weird. Any ideas?

Don’t write something that would make them think you’re needy or something. Act like you’re choosing them not the other way around. Be like ima be your daddy.

“Hey man, I saw your roommate survey on the _______________ Class of 2015 group and it looks like we might be pretty good roommates. If you don’t already have a roommate, check my survey out and let me know if you’re interested.”

Something like that.

really? go random, it’s the way to go.

Go random. Just because the schools will probably make you take a survey, and if you hate your roommate you can blame the school and not your poor choice.

Definetly go random. I know so many people who found roomates ahead of time, and it worked out horrible. It’s hard to know what a person is really like by a survey.

Anecdotally, most of my friends who met their roommates through facebook have had horrible experiences with them (with the exception of one pair who are like BFFs forever). Mostly, I think they focused on the wrong things (taste in music, etc) than the stuff that would make them compatible as roommates.

However, having said that, I met my roommate online through one of those roommate matching sites and we get along fantastically well. She’s awesome. I think the reason why we work so well was that I was very aware of my living habits and made sure she’d be ok with them (i.e., I go to sleep early, so I told her upfront what time I’d want all the lights off by). We then met in person at a Starbucks to make sure we meshed in person. After all of that, we finally decided to room together.
