How to go about transfering in

Hey everybody,
I'm a student at a community college in Illinois right now and I'm starting to look at schools which I may transfer to once I'm out of here. How likely am I to get admitted in as a transfer student with a 3.4-3.5 GPA?

I've read a little bit on the universities policies and just wondering what classes will I most likely take if I transfer over and attend a semester before applying to the Kelley School of Business? I've already finished business calculus and received a B and a few of other courses that most other schools classify as "business core".

I've also done some research and found that Indiana University is one of the better accounting schools to attend in the country. Do a lot of companies in Chicago recruit from IU? Such as the Big 4 accounting firms.

First, if you’ve ever earned anything below a solid B or a W, you probably shouldn’t waste your time trying to transfer to Kelley. I wish they posted the track record of transfer students who have tried to come to IU and get into Kelley because based anecdotal experience, it must be extremely low.

You must take one course from each of the following areas to apply to Kelley even if you have already taken them.

Complete one course on the IU Bloomington campus from each of the following areas:
Business Analysis (BUS-A 201, BUS-A 202, BUS-L 201, ECON-E 201, ECON-E 202, BUS-K 201, or BUS-X 201)
Mathematics (MATH-M 118, MATH-M 119 or ECON-E 370)
Communication (BUS-C 104, BUS-C 204 or ENG-W 131)
Complete one additional course on the IU Bloomington campus in any of the areas above, for a total of four Kelley admissions courses.

I don’t know, I just feel like they try to make it very difficult for students to come in as transfers.

Twice as many Kelley Bloomington accounting majors work in Illinois compared to Indiana after they graduate. The seven largest Chicago firms *(Big Four, Crowe Horvath, Grant Thornton, and McGladrey) and a lot of the rest of the top firms (Ostrow, Plante Moran, CBIZ/Mayer, Blackman Kallick) recruit Kelley. Lots of Fortune 200 companies in Chicago recruit Kelley for their internal audit/accounting departments.

I agree with hkem that you should not try to get into Kelley if you have any W’s or grades less than solid B. Also, I would take finite math in Illinois and transfer the credit to IU. Then take Econ E370 in Bloomington, as it has a much, much higher rate of solid B or higher grades.

Here is a database that shows which classes transfer to IUB.

Thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated.

I’m an A/B student, the only class I’ve received a C in was Macro Economics and it was because of personal reasons. Will this affect my chances of getting into the Kelley School of Business? Retaking it would be no problem.
