Hello all. I’m a junior in high school and I’m really struggling with the ACT. I took it the first time (without studying at all) and got:
M: 19
E: 26
R: 29
S: 24
Composite: 25
And the second time I took it, (mainly studied only for math) and I got
M:22
E:26
R:26
S:24
Composite: 25
I need to get at least a 30 to be competitive at the schools I want to apply to. I plan on taking it 2 more times, in June 2016 and September 2016, just in time to be sending in my Early Action applications in November.
How hard is it to go from a 25 to a 30? Math and science are my worst subjects, so I’m going to emphasize more studying on those than English and reading. How much of each section should I study if I want to get at least a 28+ in each category? Is it possible to even make a 5 point composite jump? What’s the best way to study? Thanks
I know this will sound insane, but I took a full act test every few days until taking the exam. I did so many that by the time I took the exam I had gone through ever single practice test available. By doing this I scored extremely well. A five point jump is possible but you have to study.
I didn’t need to jump 5 points but I know people who have.
Agree with @Acceptance101, there’s only so much that an “achievement” test can measure. If you truly want to improve exponentially in score you’re going to have to target your weak sections and as well do practice tests/problems that cover every topic/subtopic/possible topic that will be on the exam. I would start with English and math as they’re the easiest to improve as the time pressure isn’t as terrible as reading/sci also note many schools superscore so you may not need a “30” in one sitting but rather a 30 superscore.
