how to help choose?

My son has been accepted for pre-pharmacy at the following schools: Pitt, Duquesne, USP, Wilkes, UConn. We are from eastern PA. Single parent home with some help with tuition from non-custodial parent. Does anyone have a student at one of these campuses that would give it a good overall rating?

Pitt is a heck of a lot cheaper than Duquesne, if you want Pittsburgh. If your son can get the conditional acceptance at Pitt, I would certainly take that. (I don't know if Duquesne has the same deal.)

Between Pitt and Duquesne, I think they are of similar quality. Once licensed, the particular school is not very important anyway. You might want to check the state board pass rate from the various schools to help you assess quality differences.

Friends son is happy at USP's 0-6 program.. Got a nice scholarship with a 1350 SAT. In his second year and commutes. I don't think it has much of a campus though.

Regarding the campuses, both Pitt and Duquesne are urban and the city amenities (cultural, sports, shopping, dining, etc) are at your door. Duquesne is more of a closed campus in that the city traffic doesn't run through it, but it is more isolated than Pitt. Pitt has major traffic running through it but it is more connected to the neighborhoods and the Oakland student community (Pitt, CMU, Carlow, Chatham).
