How to help out my friend get into college?

Hi. I have a friend (we are both juniors) who wishes to go to a good school: Middlebury. I think that she does have a good college resume thus far, and that her numbers are quite beautiful. But with today's insane college competition, I think it will be important that she has some even more impressive things on her application to help her REALLY stand out.

Here is what she has done so far in high school:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
General Information:
Junior
Female
Caucasian
From a rural, small-town high school in Maine.
Less than 1000 students.
Very few AP classes are offered.
Academic Information:
GPA: 100.4 weighted --- or around there on a 100 point scale.
(Five percent weight to honors or AP classes)
Mostly A's --- a few high B's here and there (92 or 93 in chemistry junior year + one Freshman year grade)
Takes the most challenging courses.
Class rank: 3 out of 205.... I hope and have faith that she gets 2nd in class though. They are close.
Scores:
PSATS - She got 2100. High 600's in the math section, but insane scores on the writing and reading sections. I think she'll probably do even better on the SATS when more pressure is on.
AP - For the single AP class that we have, she'll probably get a 4 or 5.
SAT II's - Probably going to do just as well as on the PSATS.
Financial:
She is considered low-income (very poor). (She gets free lunch, I believe.)
Teacher Recommendations:
Her recs will be good. Teachers like her -- they have no reason NOT to like her. She is truly intelligent, and I think most teachers see that.
Extracurriculars:
Theater
She is our stage manager, and very much devoted to it. She stage managed our play which made it to the New England Drama Festival (beating out around 80 other schools). She won a judge's commendation award for outstanding stage managing in 2006 at the State-Level one act festival. She also won a speech and drama department award in 2006. She has stage managed most of our high school plays, and acted in a few small roles.
Freshman, sophomore, junior--- and will be in it for senior year as well.
Speech Team
She has snagged two awards at the state tournament. I think a 2nd place at States and a 3rd place this year. Sophomore year, she won an honorable mention at states.
Sophomore and junior years --- will be in it for senior year.
Class Treasurer
Just for junior year so far. I'm not exactly sure what she does here... but it's not a very active student body.
Peer Helpers:
This is actually a community service thing. As part of our high school program, she goes over to an elementary school every week to help disadvantaged kids out. Sophomore and Junior year thus far.
Tutoring After-school
She and I go down to the elementary school after school everyday for an hour to tutor kids who need the academic support. Junior year.
National Honors Society
We all know about this one. Junior year. ^_^
Leadership:
I really think that her stage managing expertise has honed her leadership skills. She really is a fine stage manager, and well-respected by our theater coach. They are good friends.
She also the class treasurer, as mentioned above.
Other Awards:
Foreign Language Department Award
St. Michael's Book Award
She got in the 98th percentile on the PSATs. So, I'm guessing that she is a national merit semi-finalist at the least?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So, I was wondering if there were any programs / awards or anything supporting what she has done so far, where she can enjoy herself, experience something new, and strengthen her college resume. She is a particularly strong writer and an awesome poet. (She can make rhyme sound good). Not to mention, she is a very, very intelligent person (one of the smartest I know). She's also modest, and kind of quiet, but capable of being a leader, particularly by example. She is unique, and--I say this embracingly--she is a nerd for video games and comic book heroes.

I know this is the end of the junior year, and that senior year is approaching. But if there is anything that she could cram into between now and college applications, please do tell me!

Thank you!

I think she'll be fine. :) I got into Midd with a ~3.8, 2200 SAT. My activities were far less numerous than hers--theatre, volleyball, and French. And lots and lots of each. My friend had different activities and got in with a ~3.9 & 1960 SAT.

As long as she is able to show the adcom her passion for her activities and write a decent essay, she'll have just as good a chance as anybody.

Good luck to both of you!

lol We know you are referring to yourself. You don't need to hide it by claiming that those are the stats of "your friend."

^ Not at all. :-P Search for my threads. I have posted my stats before, and they aren't the same as these.
