Sometimes another user gets on your nerves and you just need to take a break from them. Maybe a moderator has asked you to put another user on ignore. How, exactly, do you do that?
First go to the Users tab in your preferences.
Generally you want to completely ignore a user, though there is an option to not be notified (i.e, mute them) instead. If you ignore, you can set a timeframe, including forever:
If a moderator suggests you ignore a user, that’s the ideal duration. If you are just annoyed with someone, it’s probably better to ignore them for a period and see if they (or you) have mellowed in that time. You can always extend the time if needed.
Be sure to save your changes when you are done.
