I got an 11 on SAT yet I got an 8 in the ACT essay. How can I improve this?

My advice: just don’t worry about it. An 8 is fine, and if you send in your SAT scores, colleges will see the 11 anyway. To tell you the truth, the essay section on either test is not that important (especially for the ACT - I only say that because CollegeBoard is full of a bunch of air-heads who include your essay score into your writing/grammar section score, making it a hair more important for the SAT). But really, don’t worry about the 8 - that’s more than adequate. I got an 8 on my ACT essay, and admissions turned out fine for me last year.

I would have thought a high essay score on the SAT would have transferred to a high essay score on the ACT…

^ Nope. I got a 12 on the SAT essay and a 10 on the ACT essay.

^A 10 is still considered high.

I think it was because on the SAT I used all historical/literature examples. For the ACT it is much harder to do so, so I tend to use past experiences. I guess that affects my score, I’m not sure.
