How to Improve Black America

We argue about AA, black immigrants vs black Americans, and black names:

So now is the time for the bright minds at CC to make a tangible plan to improve black America.

All groups can participate and give their suggestions.

i'm pretty sure no online posting on 1 website (CC) is going to improve black america... especially since the majority of "black america" isn't on this website. rather they are on myspace and u-tube.....doing the"soldier boy, and the roosevelt" and showing all their money and drugs....... and yeah.... i've seen it and it is pathetic.

Destroy BET: BET is the single most powerful source of negative stereotypes in today's media. It's more potent because, supposedly, it's a channel that portrays us in a way we like. Our it's supposed to be.

Find some pride: Academic excellence and professionalism can't be considered white anymore.

people need to realize whether they were born there or not they do originate from Africa. I've heard in my life, including Kanye's dumb ass, say that they are not from Africa and why should they care. All they are doing is making themselves look stupid and in front of the white man.

Place more emphasis on education and get rid of some of the stereotypical images we are displaying of ourselves in the media.

Am I the only one that doesn't care about how less pigmented people perceive me?

I feel you should care if their are negative images being spread about you because they ultimately hurt you. If people think you are stupid do you think they will hire you for a job. If people think you are dangerous dont you think they will try to do everything to put you where you cant hurt anyone. It matters a lot to a degree what less pigmented people perceive of you.

I don't ***** about stereotypes. I break them. Stereotypes are abstract things while I'm a living, breathing counter-example. Which do you think leaves the greater impression?

P.S. When you write a question, end it with a question mark (?).

^^^
But even though you are a living counter-example people sometimes have stereotypes so ingrained in their mind that they are unwilling to see anything that defies what they think should be the norm. Let this be the boss of HR to the company you are applying to and you are screwed.

P.S. Thanks for the reminder, I always let my writing go to **** online.

I'm plan to be an entreprenuer and so, I'm not worried about applying for jobs...I'll hire myself=P

get rid of rap music

I disagree not All rap music is bad.......in fact early rap music gave mainstream America keen insight into the plight of the urban poor.

Massive cultural shift. The level of underachievement in school is astounding.

Communicating to young black males that they can be anything they want to be -- doctors, lawyers, politicians, academics, writers, etc. They don't have to hang their dreams on a hip-hop or basketball career; there is more to life than these.

Ditto on all suggestions.

If we want to im[porve black America or anybodys america in general, we need to get rid of all the help this country gives yo people, Pull out all welfare, afirmatiove action and all that crap/

If people fail they deserve to fail, if people starve to death they deserve to starve to death. Sorry but this is the idea of America, not some socialist idea.

Maybe this will wake people up and have them start having some inspiration in life, instead of everything being done for them already.

BTW I am black, and see it in my own eyes, especially in my neighborhood here in the Bronx.

Goat4d, that does not help poverty. In order for poverty for to be alleviated the governement needs to help. Name one society that has been lifted without focus on social issues. But you can name many that have fallen because of the lack of care for the poor. People are not poor because they are lazy, especially in a class-based country like America.

Hey goat4d: I did my pediatric residency in the Bronx.I don't believe withdrawing support for children is a good idea. I believe helping children is where we can help the most. there are so many things that cm go wrong, & it seems that it takes a lot more effort to make them go right. There are many ways to help, but exposing children to all of the possibilities, outside of their families, neighborhoods, and schools, is really helpful.

^^^^ Exactly- more than half the recipients of welfare programs are children.

goat4d... i agree w/ pulling out welfare but not the affirmative action. welfare should be something that ppl use temporary just to get on their feet, but it is not. i see projects everywhere and ppl live there their whole life...and so do their kids....and their kids....and their kids. the only way out is through athletics...which is not something too reliable or possible. welfare just keeps blacks in poverty......
