Hey Guys:)
So I got back my April ACT scores today and here’s the breakdown…
Composite: 30
English: 28
Math: 30
Reading: 33
Science: 28
This was my first time taking it and I only got to study about a week before.
Honestly, I thought English was the easiest section but I probably made silly mistakes… As of now I don’t know my essay score. I plan on retaking it for the second time in June.
How can I improve my ACT score of a 30 to a score of a 34+ in June? What should I do about English and Science?
(I know I just need practice for math because its usually dumb mistakes that lower my score… )
Thanks
First of all, congratulations on your score!
If I were you I would spend your time review your English skills and Science.
After you feel confident in those I would do a review with your two best sections.
A book that really helped me was the Barron 36.
A 30 is a great first score. I got a 31 my first time, then took it again 2 months later and got a 34, so it’s totally possible to improve that amount.
I second the Barron’s ACT 36. It’s geared toward students who are already scoring around 30 but who need to improve in different specific sections. It doesn’t really re-teach you concepts (the math section contains a few paragraphs about every individual topic), but it gives you a lot of helpful tips and practice questions. Read it thoroughly, take notes, look up things you’re rusty on and practice, practice, practice!
Oh, and to improve English, the biggest thing I’ve seen help is slowing down and reading it out loud. Also, don’t pick any options with semicolons or em-dashes unless you’re ABSOLUTELY sure the other options are wrong.
Thank You so much guys I think I’ll start reviewing topics in the Barron’s ACT 36 before I start taking real ACT practice tests. I think that book is just the tool I need for achieving a 34+.
