How to improve my chances of getting in?

Right now I am a Sophmore in high school and after touring UF it is my goal to get in there. My GPA is good but because I go to a private school it is calculated weird and I am not sure exactly what it is. I belive around a 3.8 Uw. I need to know what other ec’s I should do or volunteer work. I am in the ski club at my school, forensics, spanish club, and I might do yearbook next year. I also volunteer with disabled kids, at the humane society, and I volunteer at the hospital. I also played football but only my freshman year.
Anything else I should do or join. I do take many honors and at my school there are not many of red AP classes until senior year.

For UF? Do what you enjoy. Stay in those clubs you enjoy and try to get into a leadership position by the time you’re a senior. UF would rather see you in a handful of EC’s that you spend time in, than in 20 zillion clubs. Continue doing your volunteer work, think about a job (it’s like an EC) and try to enjoy high school.

Your class load is fine. UF looks at what’s available at your school, and if you’re taking the most rigorous classes, they will be happy.

So far you’re doing great.

Gator- I forgot to mention but I do have a job I work on the weekends. What do they mean by leadership roles?

UF uses holistic admissions. 50% will be based on GPA (the most important), class rigor, test scores (not as important as GPA/Rigor) and the essay (the essay does matter). The other 50% is based on EC’s, leadership, volunteer, work, etc.

They do like to see that you took on some type of leadership role. Anything from being an officer in one of your clubs, to showing initiative with one of your volunteer/work roles. It’s a nice to have but not a must have. For example, being an editor of the yearbook, or helping to setup some type of event/activity for disabled kids would show leadership.

Good Luck!
