How to improve on critical reading

I take the SAT in May, and I plan to take plenty of practice tests for the next four months. I've already gone through the BB practice tests, and now I need a new book from the college board primarily for practice tests. I've heard 10 Real SATs is really good - any feedback on it? I need a book with the explanations to the answers. Also, what can I do to improve my passage-based reading skills? I ALWAYS run out of time when it comes to the passage-based reading.

Read. Everything. News, books, etc. Go through more practice tests and look at the stickied thread above “How to effectively attack the CR”, it has some good pointers. I haven’t taken the SAT yet, but I get pretty high scores on all the practice tests I’ve taken so far.

what’s your average CR score at this point in time? i really dont know what to say to improve for timing, i just took a bunch of practice tests and got the hang of it. how efficient are you at the vocab fill-ins? finishing those up quickly can give you more time for the passage based q’s.

Vocabulary. It really helps. (From someone who has 800 CR.)

I currently have a 540 in CR. No one recommended any practice test books?

the only practice test book(s) i used were BB1 and BB2. i average pretty high on CR though keep in mind i’ve been a voracious reader for my entire life. memorize TONS of vocab words. i hear direct hits works well, however, im good with vocab since whenever i encounter a word i dont know (i.e. when i read classic lit…which you should do too) i look it up. get familiar with the patterns of the test. EVERY answer is supported by the passage! a lot of people i know LOVE to OVERanalyze the passages…DONT do that. i repeat do NOT do that. analyze but do not overanalyze. often times it actually is the most simple answer. good luck.

I dont really buy into the whole memorize 6000 vocab words thing. I mean, I get like a 750, and half the one I get wrong are vocab and the other half are passages. But why memorize 6000 words for two questions? Why not just memorize the more common 500 words? Just makes more sense to me.

i am stuck in 500s in the CR section.this realyy causes a problem to me.do you recommend any specefic sources to read from to boost my CR skills in passages?
