How to improve on passage based reading? (long passages)

So ive been taking some practice tests and im making little progress in the long passages. Sometimes i'll get one wrong for the passage in a section another i'll get 5 wrong for the passage. Sentence complettions and short passage are really easy to me though. Question is, how do I improve? Im taking the collegeboard tests and I look up the explanations for the ones that are wrong understand why its right. That's great. But what am I really trying to do with these tests other than just keep taking the tests and seeing what I get wrong, read explanation rinse repeat. Please! Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Im also taking the SAT in June, just to let you know

The length might be making it harder for you to understand the main idea. Try making a passage map (circling ideas, etc).
