How to improve on the SAT?

I just recently received the results of my first ever SAT. I personally think I did decent for a first time attempt without any prior preparation and/or studying.

My total score received was a 1940/2400. I got an 800 in math, 590 in CR, and 550 in writing (8 essay). I know I suck at the reading/writing but the math score is impressive right?

I currently am a Junior in HS and plan on applying early decision to Virginia Tech for engineering next year. What suggestions do you have for increasing my score? Is my score good enough to get in or should I retake the SAT to better my odds?

Thanks!

Maybe this will help :)

That is a great first time score! But it seems like you’re more math and science oriented, based on your aspirations and math score, so have you considered taking the ACT instead? A lot of people who are more in that mindset only have to do minimal studying to get a pretty good score on it, compared to months of studying for an SAT score they weren’t happy with
