how to improve reading scores?

hey guys.. i just got my january sat scores back, and i did realllllllly badly on reading
i kinda aced writing and math, so it makes it look really awkward
how can i improve my reading score?

i have the whole summer, and will do anything it takes to get a 650+ on the reading part for the october sat next year

How much time do you spend reading each day? Is it less than 2 hours? If so, READ MORE and choose challenging (but interesting) material.

Reading was pretty hard Jan, my score dropped 50 pts, but its cool. Just make sure to read a lot of news articles (economist, new yorker etc.) not the crappy actual news, but editorials in intellectual magazines etc. That actually helps, but I'm just fated to do pretty badly on cr.

Try to isolate your problem: do you struggle with vocab or reading passages? If vocab is your problem, start working through a vocab list. Come up with a plan, such as 5 words a day. Make sure you keep reviewing the old words every few days so you don't forget them. If you struggle more with the reading passages, do lots of reading as has been suggested and take lots of practice tests to get very familiar with the question types and the type of answers they're looking for.

Read (*and analyze) for fun.

You can't just read passively. You need to be thinking as you go.

can someone please tell me the BEST BOOKS for critical reading?
i had barrons 2009 and that is HORRIBLE!

Anyone??????

anyone else?

Do a test paper and see which reading-type questions you struggle on (sentence-completion? Sentence improvement? Long passages?)

Here’s a test paper by the College Board:

https://satonlinecourse.collegeboard.com/SR/digital_assets/assessment/pdf/0833A611-0A43-10C2-0148-CC8C0087FB06-F.pdf

^Print it out, do it all (make sure to time yourself), then look at the CR questions specifically and figure out exactly what you’re struggling with. Then tackle this accordingly.
