How to improve the application process

How can the USNA online application (CIS) be improved?

What problems did you experience with CIS?

What useful tips would you pass on to future candidates regarding CIS?

For example:
- CIS should allow candidates to...
- CIS should provide more information about...
- I wish I knew this a year ago...

The biggest problem I experienced with the online application process is that if an application process is online, there should be a way to ask questions online as well.

There is the "send an email" page: Email USNA Admissions

I've sent emails using this and never have had an acknowledgement or response. If email queries are not monitored, then USNA should take the link above away off the Admissions webpage.

help ensure that ALL web browsers will work on the CIS.
I used Safari and Firefox on my Macbook and one of the required sections (the one asking what ECA's and Sports I did) would not work when I used those browsers.

I ended up having to go to a friends house to do it on an old windows computer.

Once you have all items in the application package completed an e-mail notification stating that your application is complete would be courteous. This may help reduce the number of calls to the admissions office from panicking candidates who think there may be something they did not complete, wondering why they haven't received any word back even though it's April 15th. Not that that was my particular case or anything...

Also, the link to candidate bulletins could be larger and in a more centered position on the page. Or, when there is a new announcement have a pop-up the next time you log-in; a notification e-mail would also be sufficient. This may help reduce the panic when the admissions people decide to add a new item to the application package and many of the candidates may not notice that discreet candidate bulletins link at the top right of the page has changed.

Other then those 2 requests, I have no complaints.

Better responsiveness to webmail
Browser compatibility
E-mail notifications
Candidate bulletins

Thanks for the comments!

Not so much for the application process, but when you send in paperwork (like acceptance of appointment) it would be nice to get an email (automated would work fine) that says the academy received it. Mail gets lost sometimes and people don't like to worry about important papers like these.
