How to Improve your GPA after your first semester in college?

As a pre-med student, my GPA this semester was 3.33, well below average. I've tried to figure out why I did so terribly, especially when I thought I was going to get at least a 3.6.
I think it might have something to do with the fact that I didn't have a huge load this semester, and it maybe the reason why I took things lightly. I got a B+ in Spanish, which I know I should have done a lot better in. I got a B+ in Chem (before the final i had an A-), an A- in my English class, and a B in Psych. I know that it is only my freshman year and i can come back from this. I just need ideas about how I can improve.

First off, college is hard, and those grades are nothing to be ashamed of. I have pre-med friends, though, so I understand the grade anxiety a little bit.

Second, if you think you took things too lightly, make sure you buckle down next semester. Something that helps me is listing every major assignment in my Google calendar (papers, projects, etc.). That way, I’m not scrambling at the last minute to get everything done, because that’s the surest way to not get good grades.

Analyze what specifically made you not do as well as you hoped. Did you blow off studying vocabulary for Spanish? Did you not know the material for psychology well? I’m not accusing you of being lazy or anything, but sometimes it helps to be really honest with yourself. Sometimes not doing the little things can really hurt you in the end; I speak from experience.
