How to International Uni.s really compare

Just wondering about these ones:

University of Toronto
Kyoto University
Cambridge
Tokyo University
Oxford
Swiss Fed Inst Tech - Zurich

These were ranked top 30 in the world by:
<a href="http://ed.sjtu.edu.cn/rank/2004/top500(1-100).htm%5B/url%5D">http://ed.sjtu.edu.cn/rank/2004/top500(1-100).htm</a></p>

Notice that there are no small LAC schools and etc.
Now how much truth is there to the above list and their respective rankings, because I notice that a few Iview aren't exactly ranked.. well.

apparently, that ranking is garbage (at the moment i forget why but their methodology is 10x worse than usnews)....however, like all rankings, it does a decent job at placing unis in ranges.

UofT - very good school but not quite top 30 in the world...I would say that if UofT was in the states it would be in the top 30 (i realize its difficult to hypothetically domesticize foreign unis but you get the general point). UofT is not very selective but its programs are strong in almost every category. However, since it isnt selective, classes are huge, and it has a rep as a commuter school with little community spirit.

kyoto and tokyo- im by no means an expert in the japanese system but ive heard its very difficult to attend their public universtieis (like kyoto and tokyo)
