I've been in college for around 3 weeks now, and so far, it's been pretty easy. But I'm worried, because it's been too easy from what I expected. Am I not studying enough? I do all my homework everyday. but that's pretty much it. How much should i study? I'm taking 5 courses, but 2 of them are "whatever" courses... ? Any suggestions? I want to ace my courses this year!

Keep up in class, make sure you understand the material. If you’re not struggling on any homework/busywork, you’re probably okay for now. As a general rule, you’re supposed to spend 2-3 hours outside of class for every hour spent in class.

Otherwise, your first midterm/essay will give you a better idea of where you stand. If you ace the exam, congrats! If not, it’ll show you where you need to spend more time, and you can adjust your study habits after that.

Generally the rule is that for every hour you are in class, you should study 2 hours outside of it. But not everyone can do that, especially if they work, volunteer, or are involved in clubs or sports. I don’t follow the rule at all and study however much I need to until I can grasp whatever it is I learned. For classes such as foreign languages, I study less than half an hour for them, but for classes that require a lot of heavy reading with dense materials or problem-solving (like math), I spend a lot more time on them. I don’t see the point in spending time on something I already have a good grasp of just to fill allotted time.

You should study as much as you need to in order to understand the material. If you understand the material and are doing well on the assignments and exams, then you are absolutely fine. You may find some classes really easy, and you might find others really difficult. There’s no right and wrong amount of time to study. I found that I spend less time on school in college than I did in high school because there was less busywork, less time spent in class, and more freedom to learn things how I wanted to learn them. There’s nothing wrong with that.

You’re keeping up with the assigned reading even if there’s no homework or quiz based on it?
