How to know when your decision is sent

I'm sorry AcceptedAlready, but I called them before and I just hung up cuz I didnt know whom to ask at the Hub (it had some menus to direct). Isn't it the enrollment service for current CMU students, not admission? THanks again AcceptedAlready!

Haha. Pick the menu that is for admissions because there is another one that is for current students (accepted/enrolling).

It doesn't really matter who you talk to because they can redirect you if they feel they are not qualified to answer your questions.

Don't be so shy! You can also call the regular admissions phone number and just ask them to redirect you themselves.

Can you call the HUB even if you might not be accepted?

Yes. Use them as a secondary way of getting information beyond the regular admissions office.

are international decisions sent by snail mail as well?

 they are sent by mail??!!!!....they can't afford Fed-EX or what??

yep, it will take you at least 2 weeks to reach you in India..
Just check their website regularly from Monday I guess for decisions...

that's unbelievable!!....UIUC sent letters by fed-ex why can't CMU....we will have to wait till mid april to get a confirmation....

Nerj! When CMU sent you details of ID number etc after you submitted your form, they also sent you a form that you can fill up if you want your decision to be sent by DHL courier. For that you need to give details of your credit card so that it can be debitted to you. If you have done that they will send by DHL. Otherwise, if I am not mistaken, it travels halfway by courier and the balance by snail mail- I am not sure on this later portion though.

they send it by priority air mail..
Just check online.. screw the mail!!

yeah i remember that but they can easily afford to send it by courier without asking us for money....

Well I guess the ideology is that if you are an international, you'll be paying about 40k a year anyways so what is an extra few bucks?

yeah... as Accepted said, they are trying to save money so we freshman can buy cheap subsidized beer when we move into the mellon

Hah I'm more concerned about the exotic stuff (like Everclear). You can buy beer pretty cheap off frats already (or get them free if they are in one or have friends in one). They also sell Lagers for a buck everyday (as well as other beer) just a couple blocks away in downtown Pittsburgh (walking distance).

Lol, you drink Everclear in Mellon and they actually sell that stuff down there?

If they are subsidizing everclear for us freshmen from the postal money, there surely will be alot of freshmen lying knocked out before orientation week even starts!!

There are quite a lot of liquor stores in Pittsburgh (just like with any city with lots of college kids). I think they have just about everything including foreign stuff from other countries. In fact, one of the frat's favorite themes is called "Beers Around the World". Basically each room in the frat is a different "countrY' and offers different beer. You'll find Heineken in the Germany room and Corona in the Latino room. It's pretty fun 'cause you get funny drunk calls.

Note: I do not recommend any freshman try Everclear as a first alcoholic beverage. Also, drinking is not a pre-requisite for fun at CMU. However to be truthful a lot of kids who have never drank before will start in college :)

Haha, your frat seems fun.. I'm sure gonna signup if I ever become a freshman :(

German beer is a favorite for me.. And I certainly will never touch everclear either, I think everyone should stay away from that thing!!
.. Especially after someone tricked me in once telling me it was vodka.. lol!

Hah that's pretty funny. There's this kid here who always plays WoW and other video games. We slipped some alcohol into his fish tank when he was away on Spring Break. He laughed it off though and it was all in good fun.

PS: Did you know that fish can SURVIVE in alcohol such as Jack Daniels and Smirnoff? I never knew that before a few days ago. At Carnegie Mellon, you learn something everyday!!! :)

Everclear is actually illegal to sell in PA so I doubt you could buy it.

But yeah there is plenty of state stores in Pittsburgh so getting alcohol is not a problem. lol

Yeah, I thought so.. it's illegal in most of the US.. but then again.. so are alot of things...
